Comments: | This tube appears to be one of the Thorn made, unbranded tubes. I bought this tube back in 1988 from what at the time was a dying breed of shop known as the 'Electrical shop'. The shop was owned by the Atkinson brothers, two electricians. The shop sold lighting and electrical products and had one of those tester boards for testing light bulbs - when a bulb was sold, they would always test it in it's corrugated box before handing it over. They also repaired small appliances such as vacuum cleaners and kettles for a rip off price. The shop was run by the electricians very pleasant but clueless wives who knew bugger all about electrics! When I asked for a 4w tube, she originally appeared from the stock room with a 4ft T12 tube and insisted that there was no such thing as a 4w tube! Then she asked if it was for one of those peculiar Ikea fittings! Given that this was a typical experience in these shops, it's perhaps not so surprising that they have not survived. |

Nice one, doesn't look like you've used it at all Rob? I can just picture the lady's confusion!

Female shop staff can be great at selling lamps tho! When I was a kid I bought a Thorn 8w T5 from a local lighting showroom for 85p!! I think that was the price of their striplites lol. And then last year when I found that 70w Osram Powerball halide on the shelf in my local Co-op the nice old gal on the checkout said 'I think these bulbs are £2 love. Is that right?' YES! Interesting tubelet Rob! Maybe a late 70s between the Atlas and Thorn crossover?

Yes I not sure of the date other than when I bought it. It's possible it had been sitting in the stock room for a long while if the staf didn't know what it was! It was used in a small battery lamp for a short period that had been converted for mains use, so has had very little use.

Looking at it again, I would say this is an Atlas lamp.
