So although rated for 80watt, this is actually a 125watt choke?, as Thorns gear specs say never to under run a 125watt tube.

Yes would be interesting to know how well 125s are driven with the respective series leading cap. The same practice applied to 5' 65w chokes running 6' 75w tubes from the mid 70s onwards...
