If you need the 125w gear joe let me know and I'll come up!

Lucky this tube wasn't trashed in all the years it has been laying dormant! I'd say the bi-pin 8 footers would be worth saving too as they'd be also of vintage status. That place must be a wreck if it's been empty since '87!

Good point tom!

that's legendary! What a week of BC tubes this has been thanks to Joe & Gav! Can't believe Joe just goes out and gets an ultra rare 8ft BC tube like he's gone to get a pint of milk Laughing

This etch was used on all atlas-made Crompton lamps until 1977 giving a span of around 12-13yrs. It most certainly was NOT made as late as 77 tho!

Whats interesting is that the caps are the type seen on the later BC tubes seen in the 70s!

Interesting info on that etch Lee! There's a couple of 8' Daylight 33s with this etch at one of the colleges here!

Oh Wow F---ing Awesome Find

The first and only 8' BC tube I've ever seen! Incidentally, does it have a small dimple in the side at the centre of the tube? According to several 1940s and 50s British books on lamps, this was often done on the 8' 125W BC to control the mercury vapour pressure and maximise the light output. If present, it should be similar in size to the dimple in a Philips SOX lamp and the intention was that it should be pointed downwards in operation.

WOW! Not seen one of these before James?

Just seen this crop up again on the randoms! Certainly a legendary find!
Kev   [Aug 23, 2014 at 05:40 PM]
Sadly no one else has managed to find any 8' BCs Sad
Tom   [Aug 23, 2014 at 07:27 PM]
Not even Gav has succeeded YET! The 1969/70 Thorn catalogue describes 8' BC tubes as 'Now obsolete with limited stocks available' so this tube is at least 45 years old!
