Comments: | I would love to be the proud owner of a 2 x 40w 2ft street lantern, but this will have to do for now, maybe forever! Nice and bright and a pleasant colour. The lantern has come up well after a good clean. I hope to install it outside if I can find a suitable bracket. It slightly resembles a Philips MA90. |

Would it allow a retrofit of 2x40w?

Quite fond of these lanterns, shame they've fallen out of favour for LED! If I was looking after a street of these, failing ballasts would be craftily converted to 58w magnetic chokes and electronic starters!

Possibly could do Paul, would just have to be careful that the heat produced by 2 x 40w tubes did not melt the bowl. I like it too Tom, though I prefer it as side entry on a longish arm as opposed to bottom entry mounted directly on top of a column.

Does this lantern not allow either arm or post top mounting? I have a Thorn Cosmo lantern that allows either.

It does yes and has come with a blanking plate.

Sadly you wouldn`t get a 2 foot tube in here, and 2 is out of the question, as the `inserted length` of a 55watt PL is only 535mm, to the 600mm of a 40watt tube.

I wouldn't be happy chaning this, I like it as it is too be honest.
