That's a shame. I presume the legendary Satin lamps were made here? They were my favourite GLS of all time with that all the way to the cap opal finish! Pity they're not available anymore! Sad

Hi Tom, yes Lyon made the Satin types but only decorative versions. The GLS shaped Satin were made in Belgium. You have a great memory, in fact for many years it was only because we developed a process that allowed the bulbs to be coated all the way to the cap that we stayed ahead of the competition from Philips and Osram! That one small invention really kept Sylvania in business on incandescents - today though I am not sure anyone cares about such things! We stopped making incandescents in Belgium in 2004 and shifted the lines to Sylvania in Africa, but it never worked properly. So then the famous Satin lamps disappeared as we had to get them in from other factories who did not have the necessary equipment to achieve the same finish.

That's a shame I wonder what has come of this factory?
