Comments: | Knowing that a 130W 240V carbon filament lamp ballasts a 20W tube nicely, I tried a 60W 240V lamp to ballast this. It runs at more or less full output visually, although it is a tiny bit brighter on an F15 ballast. I suspect the tube is under driven by a small amount; it turned out to be very hard to start, with most starters I tried just endlessly clicking away. Oddly enough the only one I got to reliably work was the Arlen 4-125W pulse starter, which are really only designed for inductive circuits but works anyway.
The colour is somewhat like standard warm white but obviously much less bright and without the pink tint at startup. Colour rendering is excellent. I would have liked to build a mount for this, perhaps out of some conduit but quickly shelved the idea - I'd probably just make a hash of it! |
