Comments:Just failed tonight and didn't realise how much light it produced until it stopped working. Lamp is roughly 2.5 years old. I just get the odd flicker every few minutes.

2.5 years that's not too good! Looks like the lamp has gone true EOL black!

Managed to get a look at the lamp itself yet?

Well a new lamp came today and I have just tried it, though straight away I didn't hold out much hope as the old lamp looked fine. Didn't work so is now on my workbench. Bypassed the light sensor circuit and works fine! Smile It's a very simple, old school circuit so wil be easy to repair.

Oh, so the lamp hadn't failed then?

No Paul, the lamp is fine!

The photocell module in mine had been disconnected so probably suffered a similar failure. From memory there's a big resistor that has evidence of overheating!

The resistor is OK on this but the triac looks to have got very hot. Hopefully I'll get some time next weekend to look at it. I'm planning to do a YouTube video of me sorting it out.
