Comments: | This is a shot of fluorescent lighting on a preserved British rail MK1 coach on the Llangollen heritage railway in a tunnel that I travelled on a few months ago. This was a steam hauled service and these coaches are effectively self sufficient in that they have a battery pack underneath which is recharged by some kind of dynamo or alternator as the train moves, there is no connection to the engine. These run of 24v with an inverter. The coaches would be late 50s/early 60s but these lights have been retro fitted as part of a refurb as there are blanking plates where the original tungsten lighting once was, you can just make it out if you look carefully. These opal fluorescent fittings where fitted to many existing coaches during the 1970s as part of a refurbishment program. Notice all the legroom and the thick seating compared to today's cram as many as possible in trains! |
