Any reason known for the odd diameter (assuming it's a normal length)? Can't say I remember seeing a T10 before...

I don't know to be honest. It can't be energy saving like the T8 as this (T10) is the same wattage as a T12. Maybe just to allow production of a more slimline fitting, before T8 came along?

Really?? You surprise me Pete! We'll have to remedy that next time we meet. T10 was more common on the continent I believe. We've had the odd T10 BLB here, of Japanese origin in 2ft and 4ft. I once found a Hitachi 20w T10 daylight washed up on Bournemouth beach but it was sadly EOL.
