Oh wow! Nice pic - we had these style Pifco lights on the Christmas tree when I was a kid!

Can't say I remember encountering a 35 set. There was originally 12 x 20v MES lights with cone shaped bulbs and other interesting shapes that now go for silly money. Possibly introduced in the 1930s? Then there was 20 x 12v LES and later 40 x 6v LES, which were common when I was a nipper. I think it was late 80s when the 100 set lights started to appear.

I've just been trying to hunt down some spares, and it looks as though a 35 set is rare, so that'll explain why you've never seen one Rob! It looks like I'm best using 12v lamps for replacements, they'll just be a bit dimmer (once they've all been replaced). I have another plain string of 20 although almost all the lamps are blown as they started failing and no fuse lamp was fitted.

If anyone has a set of the old 'bubble lights' that contain some sort of spirit in a tube that boils from the heat of the lamps, they're worth a lot of money now!

Nice Very Happy , lamps with proper ES caps, you just don`t see that anymore!

Ah, proper old fairy lights! Reminds me of the type we had on the tree when I still believed in Santa. :woohoo:

These must be 70s or earlier with the lamp holders being integrated into the shades, it was some time in the early 80s that the shades were detachable from the lampholders.

Good to see I wasn't the only one to have these on the tree when I was young, Andy! Don't you believe in Santa?! Who's going to bring the presents for your little girl?!

Nice set of lights Smile
@SuperSix: They still make 'bubble lights' over here! (although fairly uncommon to see them.)
