Kev, the GU10 pins measures 15mm in width, (pin to pin), a fluorescent starter is 17mm Very Happy
Sparkygav   [Mar 25, 2012 at 04:29 PM]
well i dont, sylvania has come limping in last with a pathetic rated life led and over wattaged compared to its competitors
Sparkygav   [Mar 25, 2012 at 04:30 PM]
Kev are you sure you were not testing the philips 3w gu10 led ?
Jay   [Mar 25, 2012 at 04:38 PM]
@Tom_N I don't remember seeing anything like that here. Next time I'm at a store I'll have to take a good look at stuff in the lighting aisle (I generally only take a quick at the fluorescent .. mostly checking for sales or clearances)
Linear_SLI   [Mar 25, 2012 at 04:56 PM]
What form do US spots take on then Jay?
Jay   [Mar 25, 2012 at 05:34 PM]
The small spots I've seen take a 12v lamp (MR16/GU5.3) that just pushes in (I can post a pic of a LED lamp for one of those)
The larger/standard ones with mains powered lamps just have a normal screw-in lamp... I'll take a pic of the lamp for those & post it sometime Smile
Linear_SLI   [Mar 25, 2012 at 05:38 PM]
Yeah we have both here, but its more the halogens that have the GU 5.3, I have only seen a few GU 5.3 in led here.

Are you sure you dont mean the GE ones gav as i have never seen Philips make in hungary...Ill go and get one out the van a minute!
Kev   [Mar 25, 2012 at 06:00 PM]
I ripped a load of the Philips Master 7W LEDs out as one shop was complaining they were not bright enought so i converted the lights to 12v 50W MR16 which was undisputeably brighter / wider beam than the Master LED Although like you i am not a fan of SLI I am p!ssed off that they are ripping us off with T12s and their Fluorescents seem to be poorly made compaired to others. On this ONE lamp i have got to admitt they have the edge. James was actually with me at my lock up when we were testing them and the SLI was brighter and wider beam no ifs buts or 2 ways about it!

LED is uncommon here for those little 12v lamps (halogen is the standard) .. I just happende to get a real good deal on the lamp - $1 - couldn't pass it up even though I have no fitting for it.

I just took a pic of a standard 120v incandescent spot lamp too Smile when my other computer is on I'll have to download from the camera...

I'm thinking one of these days I might have to do some general incandescent-lamp images too
Sparkygav   [Mar 25, 2012 at 06:04 PM]
well i agree with you the 12v 50w halogens are brighter than the 240v 50w gu10,s so if originally you went from 50w gu10 to led then to 12v 50w halogen id guess you would see a difference but you have to be careful how you compare the lamps as philips do 3 different colour temperatures and 3 differend beam anglesl
Kev   [Mar 25, 2012 at 06:07 PM]
Try one gav! If you message james he might be able to send you one! They are expensive at about £15 per lamp but at least they are made in Europe and not chain. They are a brighter better beam crisper light than the masters.
Sparkygav   [Mar 25, 2012 at 06:19 PM]
i still wouldnt use one due to the life and wattage
Kev   [Mar 25, 2012 at 06:24 PM]
Yes but its only 0.5W and is much brighter. Also as for the life span would the Philips REALLY do 40K hours? I would of thought that the SLI is a better adverage life rather than over estimated. As you and i both know some manufactures over rate their lamps!
Sparkygav   [Mar 25, 2012 at 06:30 PM]
why would SLI have a better life,my overall experience with most SLI lamps has been that they are poorer in life than there equivalent competitors similar offerings,my guess is that SLI are slightly overdriving the led,s to get a higher light output but at a lesser rated life, philips tend to underdrive most of there led lamps as seen in the master
Kev   [Mar 25, 2012 at 06:32 PM]
Hmmm i think you may of hit the nail on the head there gav. I have similar experences with SLI lamps. Their current T12s are shocking.
Sparkygav   [Mar 25, 2012 at 06:34 PM]
ive heard if some SLI led lamps that caught fire, watched a vid on u tube of one
Kev   [Mar 25, 2012 at 06:37 PM]
