Album name: | Rob_TDCi / Low Pressure Sodium Lanterns |
Manufacturer: | Eleco |
Model: | HW747 |
Power Consumption: | 35w |
Comments: | Many of the minor roads in the area that I live were lit by fluorescent lanterns, with one of these at each end. In the mid 80s, the fluorescent lanterns and these were replaced with Philips MI50s. This one slipped the net and still survives today. |

Nice to see an old timer soldiering on....!
|

Bloody brilliant rob! You should try and save it when the time comes!

Always good to see an old street lanterns....Would this be 1950s?
|

Really has stood the test of time! This must've had a 45w or 60w SO/H originally! You just know there's a magnificent old leak transformer down there still running that!

There is indeed Tom, you can hear it buzzing as you pass it. And it's still timer controlled, it had come on a bit early here.

Great to see this still in use today. I would imagine its time is numbered though especially when the lamp fails..

Sadly it probably is, the column isn't in good condition, there is quite a large rusty hole near the ground.

ID anyone?
|
|

I`ll guess at a MK8, Eleco Golden Ray, top entry?
|

This lantern is a Eleco HW747 top entry lantern, for 45W SO/H lamps. Theres only one of these left locally, and its survived 3 PFI's. at one point, the whole of Kiddy would've been lit with these.

Hey, thanks for the ID. Still a few old gems around here, time to get snapping with the cam before they disappear I think.

i gotta get a pic of the old Eleco in Kiddy. its now officially the VERY LAST Eleco in Kiddy. so i think i must save it at all costs.

Interesting in that you say the streets were lit with fluorescent and there was one of these at each end. Funny, I'm staying with my parents in NZ at present and the streets around here are still lit with fluorescent and there used to be a 90w SOX at the end of every street where there was an intersection but sadly all the SOX have gone now and have been replaced with 70w SON's. Most of the fluorescents are still around though.
