Comments: | This picture was taken c1960s. There are still SOX lighting on extended arms to stretch over the overhead spagetti for the trams. The Esso fuel station was sold off to KFC many years ago. The street lighting has since been replaces with pole top Iridioum SON as well as the junction upgraded and is now signal controlled. |

Ah, the days there was only a few cars on the road

I sometimes think I would have liked to be a driver back then... then I think of the cars they had...!

I'd be happy to drive a Morris Minor, a Triumph Herald or a Ford Escort in exchange for the quiet roads of the '60s!

Yeah some nice times. Here's the scene today - https://goo.gl/maps/U50PJ - The junction was mainly untouched and was a real accident black spot with the growing amount of traffic before the traffic lights were installed about 10 years ago

Nice photo there! Could be wrong, but the bus in the background looks to be a Daimler CVG6. Would have happily driven that back then with how quiet the roads were in comparison! Chilly in the winter though...no heating!
