Comments:This is an old picture of Crosby town centre, the suburb where I live near Liverpool. It is still often referred to as a village though it hasn't really been that for around 100 years. This picture would most likely have been taken in the 1950s. This shows some really nice old lanterns on columns that started life as pylons for overhead tram power lines. Here, they have been skilfully re-purposed to street lighting columns. In the distance you may be able to spot a lantern suspended between builds on an overhead cable. These columns survived well into the 1990s though with different lanterns.
