Comments: | This is an immaculate and NOS tube that I found one day at the tip. An unbelievably lucky find; it sparked my interest in fluorescent a few years later when I decided to fire it up. I made this fixture for it (no awards for DIY skills). |

Neat little test rig! , good find on the tube, it does look mint!, the things some people throw away!

It was in a Sylvania packet and I didn't check the etch end til I got home. So I got a double surprise.

That ballast looks bigger thank usual!

it's quite big yeah. it's ultra low loss. no noise at all from it and barely gets warm.

Yeah, if it hadn`t been for the fluorescent wiring diagram on it, I would have said it was HID!

Nice tube, there was one in a Netaline in my Nan's kitchen when I was a kid! Don't think I've seen a super low loss ballast before! Looks very much the size and style of the 80/125w dual tapped mercury ballast on our test board! Bet it'd last an eternity!

That Thorn starter looks like one of the last they ever produced as well, looking at the logo.

Yeah it came out of a Thorn Stradalux street light (2x20W). This circuit now uses an Arlen pulse starter as I want that tube to last.

Check out that colour 29!!!

Interesting - just seen this come up in randoms. Ballast is what made me look too, thought it was discharge given it's size. I've got some Thorn starters like that, mine also came out of an Australian Stradalux. I assume in Australia, Thorn are not subject to the same lamp branding ban that they are here.
