Such a great fitting! They were still selling these new in S. Africa in the mid to late 80's.

I'm guessing that in different parts of the world they kept different fittings going for longer for some reason. Like how Al has the 74 SS??

I'm guessing that fluorescents were like cars, like how India and Iran kept on building obsolete British cars because the machinery was already made and was much cheaper than designing and building new ones for some countries. Could be the same with fluorescents, maybe once the UK had updated their fittings the machinery, stamps etc went to other countries.

Thanks Kev, it was amazing how in good condition the lampholders were. Each had only the slightest brown heat dot from the hole in the tube cap (must've been tubes with Philips-type caps) and there was no evidence of pin arcing or anything. I think these must've been retired quite early.
