Very interesting! What fitting did this come out of? I'd love to see an 8' 85w firing up on this! Razz

They came out of what I assume are Popular Packs, same spine shape as Superslim Pop Packs except they were far from slim! They were mint, even had stickers by the lamp holders saying to use Ekco Super Eight tubes! One problem though... some (...)er had sawn them clean in half!!! Shocked Mad Crying or Very sad

I may wire this up Tom and give it a go! Very Happy

Who saws fluorescent battens in half? Honestly! Did you find this in a skip?
Tom   [Mar 01, 2012 at 06:42 PM]
Some tosser obviously wanted to make the fittings 'easier to handle' by sawing them in half! The bloody bar steward! I've seen the very fitting you've described! Did it have the Atlantic style lampholders? Wouldn't it be great to score a 'Super Eight' 85w tube!!??

They were dumped round the side of where I work! Yeah they were obviously sawn in half so they were easier to handle!

Them's the ones Tom! There was no trace of any lamps, I bet the only reason they were removed is because 8' 85W tubes are no longer manufactured! Mad

Did you save all the ballasts? They look very solid.

It makes my blood boil, Good old fittings like this taken out of service simply because the tw@ts have stopped making the tubes...Actually thinking about it i remember speaking to james about the 8 foot 85W and i think the tubes are still made to order.... Just probably more money than they are worth. Old fittings that are removed simply because the lamps are no longer available! New fittings get removed because they have disintergrated! I was in a new school today that i have never worked in before and they have big problems with 14w T5 at the minute...FLASHING all 4 lamps, I can only guess they have the helvar ballasts in!

How big is it, because .. WoW .. it looks so small compared to the 8' ballasts here Shocked
What happens if you put a 100w lamp in the fitting? does it simply not light?
It'd be interesting to see if something like a US 95w HO 'energy saver' lamp would fire up on one of these LOL

Were Eleco and Revo ever connected in any way?, I had an 80watt MBF ballast of Revo, and it was identical to this?

Good old kit this - bet it still works perfectly. Not sure if I've ever consciously encountered SRS gear before, how do they tend to behave at startup?
