Comments: | Decided to buy a cheapo floor lamp to try out with the little gear box I knocked together. Pleased with the results. Gives the light blue walls a purple tinge though! |

Looks good! I wonder what would happen if you put a dimmer switch on this? How dim it would go before the arc extinguished? Odd blue strip lite!

Thanks. Ah I've given that a go before, ballast makes a racket and any attempt to dim the lamp just causes it to extinguish, even with a resistive load on the circuit too unfortunately! I'm sure I remember reading in an old Osram catalogue voltage reduction is an acceptable method down to 50% and I've tried it myself with success!

Nice job. There was a period in the late 70s when my bedroom was painted in that sort of purpley/violet colour, it was quite a common colour then for boys bedrooms.

Looks good! I love my MBF Ikea floor lamp I got an 50/80w choke in my gearbox and am currently using 50w MBF Deluxe... lush!

Sweet! I need to order some more Deluxe lamps! I think I might have to invest in one of those 80/125W lumps from Philips too!
