These old black enders are thinning out now too! Yep the lampholder was a clever design where the diffuser would slot in! A feature that was lost on the later Arrowslim! Would love to find one of these in 18" 15w!

What I could never understand is why the diffuser not only clipped into the fitting, but also had terry clips to hold it onto the tube!

Too right! The beauty of a classic fluorescent batten is not to be hidden! I must sheepishly confess when I was very little, probably about four, I found that a couple of black rectangular Lego bricks fitted perfectly onto the pins of T5s and made a good mock Arrowslim LOL
