Comments: | The control gear is original in this although someone's resprayed the body of the fitting with grey paint. Doesn't look too bad but it's the wrong colour, they've covered over the Atlas sticker on the side and got paint on the end caps |

The only examples I had ever seen of these were branded Ekco - never knew they were called superslim. Just thought they were another Mk of Pop Pack.

A lot of these fittings are still going strong 50 odd years later! My grandfather has a 5' version in his garage which still has the original 80w Atlas 'Double Life' tube and metal can starter! As my granparents live on the coast, the fitting has started to rust but I'm sure it'll clean up....

Same here! My Grandfather has one in the conservatory and two in one of his sheds. I'd quite like swap one over because these are one of my favourite fittings and his ones haven't been sprayed grey. Unfortunately the one in the conservatory has a broken end cap and the shed has a pretty high ceiling and there's a bloody great organ in the way so I wouldn't really be able to get up there to swap them over.

I feel bad when I remember I could have rescued one when i was 4. It was out of our kitchen. I think it was a 5' or 6' batten.

There's a local shop In Charlwood (near Gatwick Airport) that I go in from time to time to get lunch. Always had a full compliment of superslims on the ceiling, none of which had been replaced. About 6 months back I went in to get some lunch, then didn't go in for another 3 weeks, only to find a full refit had taken place, complete with suspended ceiling and LED modulars. I wonder if all those superslims are still up there?

Chances are that they will be up there. Too much work to take them all down, they just disconnect them usually. Do you reckon they painted the spine grey to match the grey T12 PP?

We have a chip shop not far from here that still has superslims in use behind opal ceiling panels.

I'll bet they're still up there, a surprise waiting for someone some time in the future. When I saw them I thought it was quite nice to have a fully intact original installation as not one had been replaced over the years. The only thing that spoiled it slightly was they were all running T8 lamps.
