Model: | 2 x 58W Batten |

Comments: | Decided to address what will probably be a future headache, box of springs from Halfords does the job. Only problem remaining with the batten now is the lampholders becoming crispy/melting after a few thousand hours. |

I was thinking the other day. Thorn did get it right with the hard plastics of the early pop packs. I don't think i've seen an old p/p with melted lamp holders
Nice upgrade pat but what do you do when the little plastic eye snaps off?
Of the few I have that served some time and did snap of, used some tiewrap around the lampholder square part. @Amatrak I think Thorn went with the wrong plastic on the Mk12 (T8 oval ended), have heard of them melting. The 70's PP ones were the best.
Yep I've seen the end on the 80s pp completely melted right off!
I've also found the 80's ones have trouble making contact, was working on one today and the tube needed a bit of nudging to get going
LOL, love it! , that spring may not snap the tab eye like the original!, less pulling pressure on it.
yeah your right pat... the 70s PP was built to last... Makes me thing, why do they offer a spring hole for a twist lamp holder. Maybe their expected the lamp holders to come off the fitting?
Thorns 90's/00's Mk15 PP lampholder made sense as the tombstones could be easily tucked away inside, ideal for stacking the fittings. I don't know why they still use springs, Fitzy are the only ones still using them I think, best battens on the market nowadays
@pat - you're right, the 70's PP was the best. In comes cheaper and more plastics on the 80's models and then the downward spiral to Thorn as they are today. They (Thorn) would no doubt argue that fittings aren't expected to last as long these days due to reduced times between refits in commercial settings so this allows them to provide a better valur for money solution.

@ Paul nowadays only 2 year old T5 HF is being replaced already for LED, I wonder how many more perfectly working SS/SRS/QS fittings will be skipped in schools this summer
Far too many! To me it makes no sense....
