The local primary school uses several of these, but with 150W SON in. One of the columns has a loud buzz - those Thorn ballasts are prone to getting loose plates . Nice lanterns though.

The old thorn ballasts are pretty bullet proof though! Is this still in use paul?

Yep these are still going Kev! The whole site was rebuilt but these were left up!

Yes too right! The whole car park was dug up and rebuilt! These were relamped with halides but since have gone back to SON!

These are Thorn Gamma 3's. Gamma 5's are much smaller, and can take 80W-125W MBF/U max. The Gamma 4's are 2'-4' in diameter , and take two to three lamps.

nice to see in great shape. Often any water that gets in starts rusting out the plate at the base giving it the orange gungy band! I got some working in a carpark in Plymouth recently. Will try and get some pics up for you!

Still in service to this day! If it aint broke, don't fix it!
