Comments: | This is the unknown 8w U tube from the Busy body lantern. Always been difficult to get, an address was provided in the instruction booklet to send off to for replacement. the total length of the tube is roughly 11 inches. I did try 2 x 4w in series but they wouldn't light to full brightness. I'm sure an alternative can be found and made to fit and work. |

Maybe a tube from a cheap CFL?

Yeah, these will be hard to get hold of, their Japanese, their used in a number of interior lights for Toyota.
They are also used in some cheap insectocutors - obviously, those would be UV, so useless for putting in a lantern.

I'd feel inclined to convert the lantern to 4 pin 7-9w PL-S?

Ah, you don't see these tubes very often. As Rich says Toyota use these in their fugly people carriers.
