Eliot, you have found among the rarest of fluorescent tubes! And not only in SuperSix branding, but with the exclusive Atlas Superwhite colour Probably this tube was the pinnacle of British fluorescent tube developments and a fine piece to represent that country's achievements by combining the 6-foot principle with the new phosphor, well done on finding this!!

Thanks James! Credit goes to Andy for finding this though and very kindly trading it. I couldn't agree with you more! Could you tell me more about the Superwhite phosphor? Certainly the name and possibly the phosphor seemed to be abandoned a few years after this.

Glad you are pleased with it Eliot! It certainly is a beauty. I've never seen Superwhite on any other tube apart from the Mazda Super Six. The hunt continues for the fabled Super Eight!

The Super Six club is a very elite one! Just you, Andy and Kev isn't it? Lovely tube!

Nice tube Eliot! Is this phosphor the same as the Thorn pluswhite?

I did have a peek last night at the 4ft PP I got of ebay last week and I know its an atlas tube and origional thorn "paper" canister starter, will get some pics up

Eliot, I believe it's the same as the later Plus-White. You can read all about it in the Thorn Lighting Journal No.14, under the Literature section of my website.

I'll have to check it out James. I've got an Atlas Pop Packs promotional hat and advertising strip that mentions that the fittings come complete with Super White tubes 'that now offer on average 6% extra light output'. Plus white however is slightly dimmer than the standard halophosphate white so this must be something else!
